A few years ago, unusual bark scaling (top image) was discovered along one of the canals at Stennis Space Center, not far from where kents were heard in 2000 and an ivorybill was seen in 2002. I had never seen anything like it until noticing similar scaling in a 1939 photo by Tanner (bottom image, which is in the possession of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).
